During this time of quiet, we’re excited to be showcasing some of the many incredibly talented musicians who have been a part of our musical orchestras over the years. We pride ourselves on always featuring live music and we wouldn’t be able to do what we do without these fine musicians.
Next up: Gabe Maldonado! Gabe has been with us for quite a while and we are always thrilled to have his percussion skills! Drums are always the backbone of any orchestra and Gabe is the backbone of Equinox! We can’t wait for the day we get to work with him again soon! So lets get to know Gabe Maldonado:
I am Gabe Maldonado and have been playing drums for over 35 years. I have had the pleasure of working with TheBug Theatre and Equinox Theatre on productions of “The Rocky Horror Show”, “Disaster!”, “Reefer Madness The Musical”, “Little Shop of Horrors”, “Cry Baby The Musical”, “Cannibal”, “Atomic”, “I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change”, “Heathers The Musical”, “The Great American Trailer Park” and “Bubble Boy The Musical”.
Who are your musical influences: It is hard to pin down my influences to a select few but the biggest, longest lasting influences would have to be Bill Bruford, Joey Baron, and Zigaboo Modeliste.
What keeps bringing you back to Equinox? I love doing musical theatre because every show requires a different musical approach and mind-set, you get to dabble in many genres, and the close family atmosphere of The Bug and Equinox will always keep me coming back.
What else do you have in the works?
While I am anxiously awaiting the return of theatre,
I have been keeping busy “virtually” rehearsing with an old project called Protosonic in this off time. https://soundcloud.com/protosonic
What would you like to say to our patrons? I feel that Denver is very lucky to have such an amazing group of people with so much passion and talent for the arts. I am proud to be a part of it.
